Defending men’s champs Pepsi Hikers and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) were amongst the winners when the 11th edition of the Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival continued on Friday.
Hosted at the National Gymnasium, Hikers dismantled Carib Hockey Club by an 11-0 margin. Shane Samuels recorded a hat-trick while Jamarj Assanah and Robert France supported with doubles.
Sealing the win with solo efforts were Jerry Bell, Reginald Harper, Colonel Heywood and Randy Hope. In the other matchup of the section, GCC remained unbeaten as they edged Canadian unit 6ix by a 5-3 score line.
Kevin Spencer scored a hat-trick while Orland Semple netted a brace. On the other side Jonathan Roberts, Gagan Dhanju and Jugraj Kalkat scored one goal each. Meanwhile in the final two matches of the section, Phoenix downed Old Fort 4-2 and National U-21 defeated Carib 4-1.
In the veteran’s section, GCC squeaked past Carib by a 2-1 score line while Malvern of Trinidad and Tobago and YMCA of Barbados battled to a 1-1 stalemate. The final matchup of the section witnessed Hikers defeating Old Fort via walkover. The tourney is slated to conclude today at the same venue.
