Following an absence of international basketball for over 40 years, the Mackenzie Sports Club in Linden was treated to a demolition as the Guyana All-Stars got their International series against Antigua off to the perfect start, winning 76-42.
Orin Rose top scored for Guyana in the first encounter of the four-match series with 15 points while Shane Webster and Travis Burnette supported with 14 and 12 points respectively. For the visitors, Kareem Meade and Marlon Charles recorded 16 and 14 points respectively.
In the supporting match, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School crushed Mackenzie High School (MHS) 52 – 25. Akinni Wilson recorded a game high 23 points while Tyrese Mitchell chipped in with 10 points.
For the loser, Yonnick Tappin and Kobe Cork netted 13 and nine points respectively. Up to press time, the second fixture in the series was being contested on the Burnham Court on Parade Ground.
Action in the international series will continue today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 21:00hrs, with the final fixture slated to be held at the same venue on Wednesday at the identical time.
The supporting fixture today will witness Bishops’ High School facing off with St. Roses High School while on Wednesday, St. Stanislaus College will oppose Marian Academy. All supporting matches will commence from 19:00hrs.
