Anthony Morrison, who is on trial for the murder of his common-law wife Donna Thomas, yesterday professed his innocence when given a chance to lead his defence.
In unsworn testimony from the prisoner’s dock, Morrison told the court that he was innocent of the charge levelled against him.
The indictment against him states that between May 25 and 26, 2012, he murdered Thomas at their Lot 65 D’Urban Street, Georgetown home.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
“I din kill Donna, I am innocent, Ma’am,” the accused told Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who is presiding over his trial before a 12-member jury at the High Court in Georgetown.
Morrison said that he never gave the police a statement nor told them anything. He said he too wanted to know who killed Thomas. “I want to know who killed Donna,” he said. “I am innocent about this charge.”
After his client’s brief address, attorney Arun Gajraj informed the court that the defence had no witnesses to call.
The matter continues this morning at 10, when both the defence and prosecution will be presenting closing addresses to the jury.
Thomas’ body was discovered lying face down in a pool of blood with several stab wounds.
The state is being represented by prosecutor Stacy Goodings in association with attorney Siand Dhurjon.
