The West Demerara Road Safety Association closed off Road Safety Month yesterday with a walk on the West Coast to raise awareness of road deaths. The activity, which began at Anna Catherina and ended at Leonora, was aimed at educating persons on safe road use, sensitizing individuals about road accidents to encourage good road safety and urging drivers to change their culture as regards the use of the roadways.
Shahab Hack, Public Relations Officer of the West Demerara Road Safety Association, recommended that the private sector as well as government agencies hold regular seminars for drivers on road safety. He was adamant however, that no matter how many seminars or workshops are held to educate persons on the topic, no change will be seen until we as a people change our culture as it relates to road use.
