Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday announced that the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder of political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing will commence on January 27, 2016.
Several witnesses are expected to take the stand during the course of the PI, including the parents of the deceased.
Regan Rodrigues was charged with Crum-Ewing’s murder after police allegedly linked a gun found in the man’s home to the deceased.
The defendant was also charged separately with firearm possession, the decision regarding which will be delivered on January 11, 2016.
Crum-Ewing was killed on the evening of March 10 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara as he was urging residents to vote in the May 2015 elections.\
He was shot five times, including three times to the head.
For weeks prior to his death, he had held a one-man protest outside the office of then Attorney General Anil Nandlall, calling for his resignation over controversial statements he made during a telephone conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter that was made public.
