Guyana completed the sweep of their four-match international basketball series against Antigua, snatching a dramatic 71-69 win compliments of a Shane Webster dagger in the dying seconds on Wednesday.
With five seconds remaining on the clock and the score tied at 69-69 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Webster struck the winning shot on the buzzer to seal the hard-fought contest. Amoniki Archibald led the Guyanese with 11 points while Webster and Akeem Kanhai scored 10 points each.
Chipping in with nine points was Michael Turner and Keon Cameron. For the visitors, Marlon Charles top scored with 19 points while Kareem Edwards and Adisa Harris were the next best scorers with 18 points and 10 points respectively.
Prior to the matchup, Guyana had clinched the series following wins by a 76-42, 73-56 and 83-57 margin respectively in the earlier encounters.
In an exhibition matchup, Marian Academy overcame St. Stanislaus by a 68-60 margin. Jordan Alphonso top scored in the win with 24 points while Jonathan Mangra and Judah Stephney chipped in with 13 and nine points.
For St. Stanislaus, T. Belgrave recorded a game high 32 points while Kadeem Bowen and Ato Greene scored 13 and 10 points respectively.
