A man was yesterday placed on $50,000 bail after making an appearance before a city court for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
Ronald Ramnarine, 21, of Lot 2 Enterprise, was accused of assuming the designation of a Guyana Police Force officer on December 3rd, causing Satnarine Anil Singh to pull over and accompany him to the Brickdam Police Station.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution objected to bail and reported that on the day in question, Singh was driving on Regent Street when the defendant pulled up beside him and told him to pull over, claiming he was a police officer in plain clothes.
According to Ramnarine’s account, he pulled up in the lane next to the complainant, whom he knew, and asked for $10,000.
He said that the man then proceeded to the Brickdam Police Station and alleged that he had been impersonating an officer.
Ramnarine was placed on $50,000 bail and the matter has been adjourned to January 11th, when it will be recalled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
