PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Opener Assad Fudadin posted a century to help steer Guyana Jaguars into a favourable position against Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel on the third day of their fourth round match in the regional four-day championships here yesterday.
Fudadin scored 102, his fifth first class century, to outshine Captain Leon Johnson who fell eight runs shy of his third first class century, as Jaguars continue their dominance over Red Force.
Discarded West Indies batsman Shiv Chanderpaul revived images of his batting prowess until he perished enroute to a triple digit score while Christopher Barnwell slammed an aggressive half century to help power the defending champions to a mammoth 475 all out in their second innings at the Queens park oval.
At stumps, Trinidad and Tobago trailing Guyana by 214, were 51 for two in their second innings.
With the visitors resuming on their overnight 223 for three, Fudadin who was 94 not out, held his nerve to pass three figures before departing for 102.
He faced 257 balls, batted for 349 minutes hitting seven fours and two sixes.
His captain, Leon Johnson, was once again not so fortunate in reaching a three figure total, adding just two more runs to his overnight total before he was bowled for 92 by Narsingh Deonarine.
Johnson, who counted seven fours and five sixes, faced 132 balls in an innings which lasted for 138 minutes.
Veteran Chanderpaul picked up seven boundaries while inching to a century but was trapped lbw on 82 as Imran Khan claimed a big wicket.
Jaguars surged to 336 for five into the lunch break with Raymon Reifer 27 and Barnwell 7.
However Barnwell unleashed aggression after lunch cracking eleven fours and outscoring Reifer before losing his wicket on 79 while Reifer was bowled by Khan for 64.
However the bottom half of Guyana’s first innings was a total contrast as wickets started to tumble with the last four batsmen removed for 28 runs.
Yannick Ottley, who engineered the late order collapse, grabbed three for 17 runs while Deonarine and Khan picked up two wickets each.
