Uitvlugt Warriors were crowned the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Federation Cup Qualifier champs after they downed Pouderoyen FC on penalty kicks on Sunday at the Den Amstel community ground.
With the scores locked at 1-1 during the end of normal and extra time, Uitvlugt prevailed by a 4-3 margin from the penalty mark, with Keon Duke netting the game winning spot-kick. Due to the win, Uitvlugt will represent the association in the Guyana Football Federation Knockout Cup, slated to be held next year.
Prior to the penalty shoot-out, Pouderoyen took the initial lead as Marvin Frank found the back of the net in the first period. However, Uitvlugt would equalize as Duke found the back of the net upon his arrival in the second period.
In the earlier third-place playoff, Beavers humbled Stewartville by a 5-2 score line.
On another note, the WDFA will stage its second annual Banks sponsored Josiah Memorial Knockout Cup shortly, with all the competing games slated to be contested at the Leonora Sports Facility.
The dates for the event are December 11th, 13th and 20th, with the grand finale slated for December 27th.
