Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, in keeping with a promise made during the issuance of an apology over his comments made concerning government ministers’ salary increase, on Sunday donated the sum of $215,000 representative of the increase in his salary for the month of November to the residents of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to a press release, the cash donation will be used to provide support for the senior citizens within the community.
Accompanying Harmon on the visit were Chairman of the Guyana Water Inc, Dr Richard Van West-Charles and Chief Executive Officer of the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations Committee, Larry London.
During the visit, London committed $200,000 to the New Amsterdam residents, in his capacity as Chairman of the People’s National Congress/Reform’s North American Committee to aid in Angoy’s Avenue community development particularly, towards the provision of water services for those families who cannot afford the connectivity fee.
This is second donation made by Harmon, the first being $217,000 to the community of Crane Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara for the provision of street lights.
