President David Granger met with the Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo at the Ministry of the Presidency today to determine the Judge who would be appointed to perform the functions of the Office of the Chief Justice during the leave of absence of Acting Chief Justice Ian Chang.
A release from the Attorney General’s Chambers said that at the meeting, the President nominated Justice of Appeal Yonette Cummings-Edwards primarily on the considerations that she is a woman with many years’ experience as a Puisne Judge of the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature, a Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal, her competency and professionalism.
