DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC- Cricket legend Brian Lara is among several West Indians who have signed up to play in the inaugural Masters Champions League (MCL) next month in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Lara heads a list that includes discarded West Indies cricketers Tino Best, Shiv Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards as well as Krishmar Santokie.

Best and Santokie will play for Sagittarius Soldiers, Edwards will join Leon Lions while Chanderpaul has signed with Gemini Arabians.

The former Windies skipper was among six icon players listed for an auction held in Dubai Monday ahead of the tournament. Lara was picked up by Leo Lions for their base prices of 100,000 dollars.

Former South Africa allrounder Jacques Kallis attracted the highest bid of US $175,000 while former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist was the second most expensive player in the auction, purchased for $170,000 by the Sagittarius Soldiers franchise.

Each of the six teams was assigned two marquee players from a list of 12 that included eight former international captains.

The inaugural MCL is run by former Australia batsman Dean Jones’ company, Major Events Group.
