The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) says that ANSA McAL, the title sponsor for the Elite League has honoured all of its contractual obligations for the tournament.
In a statement on Wednesday, the GFF was responding to a news item in that day’s edition of Stabroek News headlined `Elite League football prizes still to be funded’.
The news item reported among other things that prizes for the competition which concluded on November 29th were still to be sourced and presented.
“Of all that was stated in the article by an anonymous writer, the GFF is disturbed by what was mentioned in one paragraph `according to the sources, the federation has supposedly met the title sponsors to try and ascertain when the presentation for the prizes will occur’.
“The article leads one to believe that it was ANSA McAl who was responsible for the clubs not receiving their prize money and we strongly refute such perception.
“ANSA McAl as title sponsor for the Elite League under their STAG Beer brand has so far honoured their contractual obligation and is also working closely with the GFF to ensure that Guyana and more so the participating teams, benefit from the staging of the League”, the Federation said.
The statement by the GFF said nothing about the prizes which the news item said were still be sourced.
Stabroek Sport has since been told that as a result of the changeover in signatories between the football normalization committee and the GFF there was a delay in making some arrangements.
The Wednesday news item had also said that the GFF may have difficulty meeting staff salaries for November and December. The newspaper has been told that November salaries have been paid and December’s will be paid soon.
