DURBAN, South Africa, CMC – West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo produced a superb penultimate over under pressure, to help propel Dolphins to a tense five-run victory over Cape Cobras and into the final of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge here Wednesday.
Chasing 179 for victory, Cape Cobras found themselves on the brink of victory at Kingsmead, requiring 13 runs from the last 12 balls of the semi-final contest.
However, medium pacer Bravo came up big when it mattered most, conceding just four runs while grabbing the wicket of Robin Peterseon for three, caught at mid-on off a low full toss.
He finished with one for 27 from his four overs.
His heroics left Cobras needing nine off the last over but they only scraped three as 19-year-old seamer Andile Phehlukwayo (2-28) held his nerves well to seal victory for Dolphins. Cobras’ run chase was carried by opener Richard Levi who top-scored with 85 off 43 balls with six fours and seven sixes.
Lesiba Ngoepe struck 32 from 26 balls and opener Wayne Parnell, 27, but Cobras crashed from a position of 132 for two in the 14th over, losing six wickets for 41 runs to end on 173 for eight.
Earlier, openers Morne van Wyk hit 57 and Cameron Delport, 55, in a 99-run stand which laid the foundation for the side’s 178 for three off the allotted 20 overs, after Dolphins chose to bat.
Dolphins will now meet Titans in tomorrow’s final.
