A Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara man lost his life last evening after he crashed into a tree around Letter ‘T’ Estate, Mahaica-Berbice.
The accident occurred around 8.55pm.
Reports are that the man, who was not identified up to press time, was speeding when he lost control of the car and ran off the road, crossing a barbwire fence.
He then crashed head on into the tree and appeared to have died on the spot. A doctor, who happened to be at the scene, confirmed that the man had died.
The man drove a Toyota Premio motorcar, which was emblazoned with the words ‘Mikey Spice.’
An eyewitness told this newspaper that the man had sped past along the West Berbice road a few minutes before and by the time they reached the scene he was already dead.
The police today issued the following release on the accident:
Investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred about 2030h. last night Saturday December 12, 2015, on the Letter T, Mahaicony, public road and which resulted in the death of Derwin Gordon, 37 years, of Zeskendren, Mahaicony.
Investigations have revealed that Derwin Gordon was driving a motor vehicle allegedly at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree. He received injuries and was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was pronounced DOA.
