Almost two months after her only child was discovered dead in his Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home, Bibi Shaliza Hamid is hoping that the perpetrator/s will be apprehended soon.
Speaking to Stabroek News from her Berbice home yesterday, Hamid expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the police have been dealing with the matter. She said every time she contacted them to enquire if there has been progress she would be “pushed around.”
The woman said the last update she was given was when the police arrested five men, almost one week after the incident, but they were later released on station bail, after she was informed that there was not sufficient evidence to link them to the crime. Two SIM cards and a cellular phone belonging to Ali that were found in their possession were kept, she added.
Ali, called “Ameer”, 22, of Lot 2 Good Hope Railway Embankment, ECD, was discovered dead by his mother on October 10. He was the lone occupant of a two-storey wooden house at the time of his death and was last seen alive on the evening of October 18 by neighbours.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum had told Stabroek News that the case was being treated as a murder since Ali sustained several blows to the head and about his body with a blunt instrument.
A hammer, knife and cigarette packets were among the items recovered by detectives. Two cigarette butts were also discovered on a table and Blanhum had said that they would be preserved for DNA testing.
Efforts to contact Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine for an update were futile.
Hamid told this newspaper that she is eager for the perpetrators to be caught and face the full force of the law, and anxious as well to be provided with answers as to why her son’s life ended so brutally.
