A Strathavon man was yesterday placed on bail after denying a charge that he defrauded a woman of half a million by promising her a US Visa. A city court heard that Sunil Dass, 28, of 25 Strathavon, East Coast Demerara, with intent to defraud, conspired with persons known and unknown and obtained $500,000 from Deomattie Ramnauth, under the pretext that he could provide a 10-year US visa, knowing this to be false.
He is alleged to have committed the crime between December 3 and December 7, 2015, at Georgetown. Dass was released on $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and the matter was adjourned until January 28 for statements.
