KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Impressive left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie snatched his fourth five-wicket haul in only his fifth first class game as Guyana Jaguars continued their imperious march through the Regional First Class Championship with their fifth straight win here yesterday.

The 20-year-old, who made his debut this season, claimed six for 33 as Jamaica Scorpions, set 326 for victory at Sabina Park, crashed to 208 all out in their second innings to lose by 117 runs on the final day of the fifth round contest.

Devon Thomas top-scored with 31, former captain Tamar Lambert scored 30 while Sheldon Cottrell got 23 but Scorpions struggled to string partnerships together and slumped badly in the end.

Motie was supported by off-spinner Steven Jacobs (2-38) and fast bowler Keon Joseph (2-43) who finished with two wickets apiece.

The victory left Jaguars on top the standings on 85, 22 points ahead of Barbados Pride who assumed second spot in the standings virtue of their three-day win over Leeward Islands Hurricanes in Bridgetown on Sunday.

Resuming the day on 82 for three, Scorpions lost overnight batsman Thomas after he had added just 11 to his overnight 20, caught and bowled by Joseph with the score on 100.

Lambert, yet to score at the start, put on 37 with wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh who made 17 before also being caught and bowled by Motie.

Scorpions crawled to the lunch break at 147 for five with Lambert on 29 but the veteran added just one before he was out in the fourth over after the resumption, prised out by the enterprising Motie.

Languishing at 148 for six, there would be no recovery for Scorpions as Motie scythed through the lower order to hand Jaguars an emphatic victory.

Cottrell resisted briefly with a four and two sixes in a cameo 37-ball knock but the last four wickets tumbled for 60 runs.

With the defeat, Scorpions dropped to third in the standings on 53 points.
