Johnathan Foo cracked a breezy century for Upper Corentyne/Canje who hammered West Berbice by 99 runs at the Port Mourant Cricket Club Ground (PMCC) as the CGI/Local Franchise League (LFL) continued yesterday.
Known for his tremendous power-hitting, the former Guyana T20 batsman smoked nine fours and a six in his 108-ball 123 which was duly reinforced by opener Sharaz Ramcharran’s 53 while all-rounder Rajiv Ivan’s batting form continued with a brisk 40 off 36 balls including five fours, knocks which took their side to an imposing 272 for 6 from 50 overs.
There was little to celebrate for the West Berbice bowlers who were very expensive gong at four runs an over. Pacer Kevin Jawahir was the best bowler with 3-56 for West Berbice who were restricted to 173 in 47.4 overs with Quacy McPherson, the skipper digging in for a top-score of 58. Returning with the ball, Foo flexed his muscles as a part-time off-spinner picking up 3-27 while off-spinner Eon Hooper finished with 2-25.
With five wins from six matches, Upper Corentyne will square off with Georgetown in a rematch of Sunday’s game which was won by the former, tomorrow at the Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) Ground as both teams fight to secure that final place ahead of Saturday’s final against Lower Corentyne/Canje at the Albion Ground under lights.
