The new non-resident High Commissioner of Jamaica, David Prendergast officially presented his letters of credence to President David Granger on Wednesday at the Ministry of the Presidency.
According to a release from the ministry, Prendergast pledged his country’s commitment to working with the Government of Guyana in order to strengthen ties of bilateral, regional and multiregional cooperation as they explore issues of common interest. He also commented on the bond of friendship that has spanned 46 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
For his part Granger assured Prendergast of his administration’s support during his tenure, noting that the values of democracy, respect for basic human rights, sustainable development and preservation of territorial integrity constitute the bond between the two countries. He said both nations recognised the importance of regional integration in surmounting the restrictions encountered in the quest for national development.
Prior to this appointment Prendergast served as Jamaica’s High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago.
