A Baramita resident, who was accused of having a shotgun without being a holder of a firearm licence and using threatening language, made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday to answer the charges.
It was alleged that Ruben Calvis, 24, made use of threatening language to Andre Couchman on December 14, at Baramita North West District, whereby a breach of the peace was made. On that same day, Calvis allegedly had in his possession a single barrel shotgun, while not being the holder of a firearm licence. Calvis pleaded not guilty.
According to police prosecutor Deniro Jones, Calvis and the virtual complainant had a heated argument over a stolen solar battery. Calvis allegedly threatened to shoot Couchman.
The prosecutor said Calvis then went home and returned with a shotgun. The virtual complainant then called the police, who had to chase down Calvis.
When the police finally caught up with him, they found the gun in his possession and arrested him.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan subsequently remanded Calvis to prison and transferred the case to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court where it will come up for hearing on February 1, 2016.
