Two men, aged 65 and 67, were yesterday charged with severely wounding a footwear vendor, Stanley Parook, 42, at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo around 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 16.
The men appeared at the Leonora Magistrate Court and were placed on $100,000 bail each. They are scheduled to return to court on January 21.
Reports are that the men who are cow owners were about to chop a young man when Parook saved him by telling him to run.
The men then allegedly turned the cutlass on Parook, almost severing his left ear. He also sustained a slash to the left side of his neck, left arm, right finger and other parts of his body.
He was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the Best Hospital. The man is expected to undergo surgery today.
According to reports, the men’s cow had damaged the young man’s car mirror and he demanded that they compensate him.
He made a report to police at the Tuschen Outpost and they advised him to “tie the cow and wait until the owners reach.”
When the owners got to the young man’s house they reportedly started using abusive language and untied the cow and took it away.
The young man then followed them while insisting that they pay for the mirror. Reports are that the man’s mother sent Parook to “bring him back” when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Parook’s wife is disappointed that the men were released on low bail, saying her husband was the breadwinner of the family and they have disabled him.
