The feat by the national men’s cricket team known as the Guyana Jaguars which has racked up five outright wins in as many matches of the regional four day cricket competition has not gone unnoticed by the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) top brass.
Last evening, the WICB Chief Executive Officer, Michael Muirhead, lauded the team and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for the recent success.
Though he was unavoidably absent, Muirhead’s comments came via a pre-recorded speech at the GCB’s annual Awards Ceremony at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC).

According to Muirhead, the WICB is committed to the continued growth of cricket in Guyana.
He highlighted the numerous tributaries of West Indies cricket, including the Professional Cricket League (PCL) franchise system and the Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament among other things which he said were responsible for the progression of cricket here in Guyana.
He congratulated the players for their hard work which has been reflected in their recent portfolio of title wins and outstanding individual standout performances at the Senior and youth levels.
GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie spoke proudly of the players while echoing similar sentiments expressed by the CEO.
Sanasie declared that the results were due to the close-knitted relationship between the players and their coaches while specifically thanking national senior chairman of selectors and Guyana Jaguars assistant coach Rayon Griffith who he said was responsible for the improved fitness of the players which has been crucial factor in their current form as table leaders in the 2015/16 PCL Regional 4-Day tournament.
For his remarkable upgrade as a batsman of the past two season, Vishaul “Cheesy” Singh received the Most Improved Cricketer Award. West Indies Under-19 opener Shimron Hetmyer, who is currently preparing for the U19 World Cup next month, copped numerous awards for his tremendous
growth from an academy player to a full-fledged Guyana Jaguars contracted senior batsman.
The left-hander received the Junior Cricketer of the Year, Most Runs in the Regional U19 2015 tournament and Most Valuable Player Award in the Regional U19 Awards. Tremayne Smartt walked away with the 2015 Female Cricketer of the year award while left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul walked away with the most coveted award, the 2015 Male Cricketer of the Year Award as well as the Rohan Kanhai trophy for the 2015 Senior Regional Cricketer of the Award.
