As the spaces in the Giftland Mall continue to be taken up, Makin style Boutique, situated on the ground floor, was launched on Thursday with live models showcasing some of the designs that will be available there.
Apart from Sonia Noel’s designs, patrons visiting the boutique will be able to choose from the fashions of local and Caribbean designers. These include Guyanese Deborah Mathias Shonta Noel and Nelsion Nurse; Trinidadians Robert Young, Dominique La Roche and Shaun Griffith Perez; Shanika Burnett of Barbados and Lyn Bristol of St Lucia.
Mathias, whose Rave Designs features a range of handmade jewellery from semi-precious stones as well as seeds, told Stabroek News that she was happy to be associated with the new boutique. She noted that the multi-designer space was new to Guyana.
Nurse too said he felt it was a great initiative adding that young designers often found it difficult to secure store space on their own. Apart from the range he currently has at the boutique, he said he plans to focus more on menswear next year.
Noel said the boutique was seeking to increase the visibility of the designers and promote the enormous economic potential of the industry, while elevating its status.
Makin’ Style Boutique will be offering special prices for the season. And Noel noted that Leatherland’s slippers and bags which completed most of the designers’ wear at the opening show will also feature in the boutique.
In addition to fashion, the boutique will also offer image management, makeovers, private showings, sewing services, interior design, clothing rentals, bridal consultations and specialty cards and invitations among other services.
