The bus driver who was shot in the back by a bandit last week succumbed to his wounds on Saturday afternoon.
Stabroek News had reported that Jermaine Barrow, 38, of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, was shot in his back along the Railway Embankment, Liliendaal last Tuesday. He was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he lost one of his kidneys before eventually succumbing to his injuries.
Barrow’s family and friends believe that he did not die in vain and that he was a hero. “Jermaine was always a good and quiet boy, you never hear him in trouble and he always helping out,” one of Barrow’s neighbours told Stabroek News yesterday.
“He was a hero, if it wasn’t for him who knows what would’ve happened to those other passengers,” she said. Stabroek News had reported that when Barrow had realized that a robbery was taking place, he accelerated the vehicle in a bid to escape and was hit in his back. The man eventually made it some distance away before crashing into a nearby trench in the vicinity of Blygezight Gardens.
His assailant has not been apprehended.
