Travelling from Barbados to the United States last Thursday, a 26-year-old Middle Road, La Penitence beautician was nabbed in Atlanta, Georgia, US with 5 kilogrammes of cocaine in her luggage.
The woman Delshana Christopher, who operates the D and D salon on Middle Road was busted at the Hartsfield Jackson International Airport after arriving on a flight from Barbados where she had stayed for two days.
Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit, James Singh told Stabroek News that United States authorities informed their local counterparts about the bust.
Authorities were monitoring Christopher’s frequent travels from Guyana to the United States for a while. For 2015 she had visited the country five times.
This newspaper was told that on arrival at the Atlanta Airport her luggage was searched and the drug unearthed. Checks and tests were also done to ascertain if she had also swallowed the drug.
Christopher will be arraigned in an Atlanta court tomorrow.
This is the second case for December where a Guyanese national was busted in the US after travelling from a Caribbean country.
On December 8th Romel Samuels, 30, who was travelling from Trinidad and Tobago, was busted at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport with 1.5 kilos of cocaine in rum cakes.
Similar to Christopher, the man had left Guyana for Trinidad and Tobago, later travelling to the United States.
