Let’s not forget the reason for the season

Dear Editor,

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” says the song and this is so evident within our dear land of Guyana, especially in the city. The traditional hustle and bustle for bargains portrays something magical about Xmas. It transcends religions and ethnicity as they are all embraced within the celebrations.

The Scrooges become seasonal philanthropists and parents strive to find gifts within their financial limits, forgetting the digital age we live in. But there is a silent sadness at this time, especially for the old folks who reflect on their new homes and the empty chair(s) on Xmas morn for the dear departed.

However we choose to celebrate, let’s not forget the reason for the season. To you and the staff a happy Xmas and prosperous New Year.

Yours faithfully,

V O Patrick
