Retrieve Raiders continued their unbeaten showing in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) sanctioned Malta Supreme Christmas Open Championships, downing Amelia’s Ward Jets Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard-court.
One of the only two unbeaten sides remaining in the event, Raiders squeaked past Jets 49-46. The other unbeaten team in the tourney, Half Mile Bulls, defeated Bankers Trust Falcons via the walkover route.
The final preliminary match of the tourney will commence at the same venue on Wednesday with Raiders facing off with Bulls. Every win is worth two points while a loss is worth one point.
Presently both sides, sit on eight points along with Victory Valley Royals who have completed their allotted five games. Jets have seven points in the standings. Currently eliminated from the event are Bankers Trust Falcons and Block 22 Flames.
The semi-final round of the event will commence on December 28 at the same venue with the grand finale scheduled for January 2 2016.
Meanwhile, Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President Nigel Hinds has donated an undisclosed sum towards the payment of officials for the championship.
He also donated two basketballs to the association as well as $10,000 to the six LABA representatives that represented Guyana at the recent Guyana versus Antigua and Barbuda International series.
The six individuals are Terron Welch, Michael Turner, Dennis Niles, Harold Adams, Keon Cameron and assistant coach Kevin Joseph.
