A 55-year-old man is now on remand after he was slapped with two charges of breaking and entering and one charge of escaping police custody.
According to the charges read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, between December 1 and 3, at Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, Mark Macalman broke and entered the Action Tyre Outlet and stole 9 gallons of paint valued at $54,000, a 100 ft drop cord, valued at $18,200, 20 pounds construction tape, valued at $5,000 and 1 roll chain link fence, valued at $14,000. The total value of the items is $91,200.
It was also alleged that between December 16 and17, Macalman broke into the same business place and stole 6 galvanized mesh valued $36,000.
The defendant, a carpenter of Lot 10 Grove Public Road, East Bank, Demerara claimed to have found the items on the road.
Meanwhile, he was also charged with escaping while in the custody of police officer John Rollins at the Grove Police Station on December 17.
Macalman pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecutor, 2 galvanized mesh were recovered from a shack in Grove.
The defendant was refused bail and the case was adjourned to January 11, 2016.
