A Friendship construction worker, who is also a Deacon, was yesterday granted bail in a city court after he pleaded not guilty to wounding another man.
Clinton Mercurius, 34, of 58 Second Street, Friendship, was charged with wounding Andrew Bender on November 16, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause him grievous bodily harm.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mercurius’ attorney told the court that Bender was the one who attacked the defendant at his residence in the presence of his two children, adding that no charges were laid against Bender.
Mercurius was placed on $75,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and the matter has been transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court, where it has been scheduled for January 14.
