Dear Editor,
Life, it is said, is full of humour. The news that the wrong person was named Miss Universe by the pageant host would have been an excellent end of year humourous event were it not for the humiliation and embarrassment that resulted from the error.
It must have been a humiliating experience for the Colombian beauty to step aside as the first runner-up in favour of the winner of the crown from the Philippines.
To err is human and the host has to be forgiven but the embarrassment caused by the error will remain for a long time, especially for the millions who watched the contest.
I take the opportunity to congratulate our own Miss Lisa Punch for making it to the top ten in the Miss World competition.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
