Topp XX and Silver Shattas became the first teams to clinch quarterfinal berths in the 3rd annual UDFA/GT Beer Knockout Championship, downing Trainline and Kwakwani respectively on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground (MSC) in Linden.
A second half brace from veteran Travis Watterton ensured Topp XX sealed their place in the final four as they defeated Kwakwani by a 3-0 score line. Following a scoreless first half period, Watterton opened the scoring in the 54th minute as he netted from the penalty mark.
Topp XX then doubled their lead nine minutes later as Watterton recorded his second of the night. The score line was eventually completed in the 74th minute as Keon Hall scored.
On the other hand, Silver Shattas sealed their place in the semi-final round after overcoming Kwakwani by a 4-3 score line on penalty kicks, following a scoreless normal and extra time interval.
Winner of the tourney will pocket $800,000 and the championship trophy while the second placed unit will walk away with $500,000 and the corresponding accolade.
For the third placed unit, a package of $300,000 and a trophy will be up for grabs while the fourth positioned outfit will collect $200,000 and the respective trophy.
On the individual side, accolades will be awarded for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer, Best Goal-keeper, Best Defender and Best Coach. Similarly, an award will also be issued for the Most Disciplined Team.
