Two men, both masons, were yesterday remanded to prison after they were read burglary charges by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Denzel Mathias, 24 of 1270 Diamond New Scheme and 18-year-old Martin Nurse of Lot 6 Diamond New Scheme reportedly broke into the home of Deshina Persaud at Lot 1248 Diamond East Bank Demerara. It is alleged that the suspects stole 2 laptop computers, valued at $215,000, a quantity of gold having a value of $420,000, clothing valued at $60,000, a PlayStation 3, valued at $60,000 and other items all having a total value of $1,276,000
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick stated that the items were recovered by police officers on patrol in the Grove, Diamond area. He added that the both Nurse and Mathias admitted to the police their involvement in the alleged crime.
The matter was adjourned to January 18, 2016.
