North Road man Hilbert ‘Junior’ Benneth died after losing control of his bike on Tuesday afternoon.
His family had originally thought that he had sustained injuries after he was hit down.
The family however found out yesterday that the 42-year-old had lost control of his bike and had been taken to the hospital by a man who had witnessed the fall from the motorbike. The man who had transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) was detained by the police on the suspicion that he might have been involved in the incident that led to Benneth’s death.
A relative explained to Stabroek News yesterday that the man who had dropped Benneth to the hospital and was assisting the police with investigations was a resident of the area who saw the accident.
“He (Benneth) was riding along the Embankment Road somewhere near to Agriculture Road and he bump into something and lose control of the bike and fall down,” the person said, stating that the man who took him to the hospital was a resident who witnessed the accident.
Benneth’s family had complained about his care at the GPHC.
