Dear Editor,
I am writing to enlighten you about two issues which are not being addressed by our new government, and should be looked into urgently as our independence celebration is upon us. The first is that I have noticed during my visits to various parts of the country that there is no Guyana flag or map in most of the important locations, namely, Morawhanna, Mabaruma, Santa Rosa, Port Kaituma, Charity, Anna Regina, Suddie, Supenaam TH&D Wharf, Supenaam Speedboat Wharf, Wakenaam island, Hog Island Wharf, Fort Island Wharf.
I suggest that ‘Operation Brand Guyana’ be launched, which will see these and other communities around Guyana be supplied with the Guyana flag and map.
The second is that I have noticed with concern there is no national monument recognising our past presidents and some of the contributions they have made to the development of our land. I suggest that the area now known as Parliament Square be renamed Presidential Park, and a national monument, such as the Non-Aligned Monument, be erected.
It is my hope that this will be done in time for our 50th Independence celebration. I will be willing to give my time and ideas to the government on this project.
Yours faithfully,
Dennis Atwell
