Dear Editor,
Now that the rainy season is with us again after a period of a short drought, the National Democratic Council of LBI/Better Hope on the East Coast of Demerara whose administrative office is at Better Hope, should pay some attention to the myriad concerns of its beleaguered ratepayers in Chateau Margot.
Among those numerous concerns, apart from poor rubbish collection, is the poor drainage. Most of the primary drainage is blocked with tall rubbish and overgrowth, but most of all the problem is the main concrete culvert that drains west to east along the East Coast highway.
That concrete culvert is neglected or is poorly cleared of the tall bushes that grow on the mud sediment. Those bushes are currently like a mini-jungle in the culvert, and impede the free flow of waste and rainwater from ratepayers’ land and property. Not only do the bushes need clearing, but also the almost two feet of sand and mud sediment which have built up during a period of long neglect.
Resident taxpayers are via this newspaper requesting that the authorities concerned pay immediate attention to this vexed matter before the impending rainy season. They also are requesting that the sand sediment be removed, as it is the main cause of the growth of the bushes and shrubs.
Yours faithfully,
