Half Mile Bulls reached the final of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) sanctioned Malta Supreme Christmas Open Basketball Championships by downing Victory Valley Royals 61-51 on Tuesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-court.
Rescheduled due to rain Monday with the score 11-8 in the first period, Terron Welch eventually top scored for Bulls with 16 points while Dennis Niles was the next best scorer with eight points.
For the losers, Harold Adams and Marlon Pollydore netted 14 and 11 points respectively. Leading at half-time 33-20, Bulls saw their lead cut in the third period as they were outscored 19-14 to go into the final period at 47-39.
Nonetheless, Bulls re-established their dominance in the final quarter, scoring 14 points while restricting Royals to 12 points to seal the contest. With the win, Bulls will oppose Raiders on Saturday at the same locale after the latter defeated Amelia’s Ward Jets via forfeiture.
The forfeiture occurred in the second period after the Jets players deemed the playing surface unfavourable. The officials disagreed with the assessment of the Jets player and ordered play to continue. However the Jets players refused to play which resulted in them losing the game according to the LABA.
