Former Minister of Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran who verbally abused rights activist Sherlina Nageer earlier this year during a confrontation outside the Whim Magistrate’s Court is to be charged.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that he be charged on July 22 just one day after the police sent her a file on the matter.
The exact charge is unclear and also why the police have delayed in taking Ramsaran to court.
Ramsaran was subsequently fired by former president Donald Ramotar as pressure mounted both locally and internationally for this to be done. The firing came even though Ramsaran offered a public apology.
Ramsaran could be hear in a recording of the encounter saying that he would slap the woman for the fun of it and have her stripped in a public place.
