Guyana’s winless run in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Men’s championship continued Tuesday night when they went under to The Bahamas 69-89 in their second group fixture yesterday at the Multi Sports Complex in Tortola.
Dave Causway top scored in the loss with 19 points, two rebounds and as many assists while overseas import Gordon James was the next best scorer with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Chipping in with nine points was Keron McKenzie while Ryan Gullen registered seven points and five rebounds. For The Bahamians, Kentwan Smith led the way with 18 points and six rebounds while Leon Cooper recorded 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Contributing 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists was Magnun Rolle while Torrington Cox netted 11 points, four rebounds and one assists, David Nesbitt recorded nine points and seven rebounds and Kadeem Coleby scored eight point and four rebounds.
The opening period was all about The Bahamians as they outscored the Guyanese 27-18. They would then extend their advantage in the second stanza, netting 26 points while keeping Guyana to 21 points to take a 53-39 half-time lead.
They would maintain their advantage going into the final quarter, outscoring Guyana 14-13 to take a 67-52 lead and would then close out the win in the final period as they outscored Guyana once more by a 22-17 margin.
On Monday in their tourney opener, Guyana went down to Antigua and Barbuda by a 60 80 score line at the same locale.
Overseas import Gordon James led the Guyanese with a double-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds and one assist while the next best contributors were Travis Burnette with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists and Causway with 11 points and three rebounds.
