The National Assembly on Wednesday approved two financial papers totalling $9.6 billion dollars spent during the last PPP/C administration.
Faced with several questions from the government side, Minister of Finance Winston Jordan was unable to answer most and said the answers would be provided later leading Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo to say it was gross incompetence on his part given that the papers had to pass through cabinet before coming to the National Assembly.
However, leader of government’s business Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo said it was the greatest political irony that the APNU+AFC government has to answer for money spent under the PPP/C administration. “They squander and we have to answer,” he declared.
Financial Paper one totalled $3.2 billion and covered periods in 2011, 2012 and 2014 while Financial Paper two totalled $6.4 billion and covered periods in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
