A Dowding Street, Kitty resident was yesterday refused bail after he appeared before a city court on a charge of cannabis possession for trafficking.
Ryan Barker, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on January 1, at Georgetown, he had 30 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking in his possession.
His attorney, Peter Hugh, told the court that his client denies both knowledge and possession of the narcotics and made an application for bail on his behalf.
The prosecution, however, objected to the request based on the seriousness and penalty of the crime and claimed that ranks had in fact seen the defendant take the narcotics out of his pocket.
Barker was refused bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore and will remain on remand until his next court hearing, which is set for January 28.
