The new owners of the former Hotel Tower have officially applied to City Hall for permission to continue renovations.
This is according to Town Clerk, Royston King.
Last week King had identified the Main Street construction as one of several which did not have permission for the work that was being carried out.
Speaking at what the city claims is an illegally constructed building on Holmes Street, King said that ‘there is a similar situation at Hotel Tower and with Discount building opposite Teleperformance. They and a number of other people in the city are building without permission and it has to stop.”
He further explained that the council intends to create in the new year a semblance of order in how they undertake construction within the boundaries of Georgetown.
“The new year will see the city’s engineer department visiting all these sites and where necessary stopping works until such time as appropriate permissions are sought and/granted,” King said.
Yesterday, King explained that in response to a notice sent by City Hall the developers have made contact with the City’s Engineer’s Department to receive official permission for the construction.
