Bhiron Robertson, one of the survivors of a fatal brawl at Manchester just over a week ago, has been charged with murder.
Robertson, 31, of Liverpool, appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on Monday, when he was charged with murdering Mark Simon.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until February 1.
Robertson was among persons involved in a fight with Simon, also of Liverpool, Corentyne, at a party dubbed “Dutty Sunday” on December 27. During the vicious fight, Robertson and Simon were both injured. They were both transported to the Port Mourant Hospital, where Simon was pronounced dead on arrival.
Relatives of the deceased said it was believed that the brawl was sparked by an argument between Simon and Robertson over a woman.
Kempton Gray, 23, of Alness, Corentyne, has also been listed as a victim of the brawl by the police although Manchester villagers have said he was never injured during the fight.
According to his mother, Roxanne Solomon, who spoke to Stabroek News via telephone yesterday, the death of her son is still a puzzle to her and her family. She explained that her husband, Garfield Gary, conducted his own investigation and found out that he was never injured in the fight.
Solomon recalled that on the night of the brawl her son kept in contact with his father. “He kept calling and tell his father where he was and sending call me [request],” the mother said. She noted that after a while they didn’t hear from him and calls to his phone went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Comman-der of ‘B’ Division Christopher Griffith told Stabroek News that the police are still investigating the man’s death. He noted that Gray might have been injured in the brawl and after he escaped from the hospital without receiving any medical attention.
Gray, while at the Port Mourant Hospital, was identified to the police by Gary Tyndall as one of the persons who was involved in the brawl. Gray’s father said his son subsequently left the hospital compound “because he didn’t want no police story.”
Commander Griffith said police later found Gray in an unconscious state on the roadside of Clifton Village. He was then picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hos-pital, where he died while receiving medical attention.
Autopsies gave the cause of death for both Gray and Simon as shock and haemorrhage due to multiple injuries.
