Massy Stores is advertising for staff as it prepares to open supermarkets here sometime this year.
The Trinidad-based Massy conglomerate plans to open two state-of-the-art supermarkets here. The first will be on the East Bank, near to the Guyana National Stadium at Providence.
In an advertisement in Monday’s edition of Stabroek News, Massy Stores encouraged interested persons to visit its staff facility at Ruimveldt, Georgetown between January 11 and January 20 as it is currently looking for potential employees to fill a number of positions. They include cashiers, wrappers, replenishers, bakery attendants, perishables attendants, back store attendants, cooks, meat cutters, data entry clerks, pharmacy technicians and relief pharmacist.
It says its benefits include competitive wages and salaries, paid annual vacation, recognition programmes and uniform incentives.
In October last year, the rebranded Massy Group commissioned a US$10M distribution centre at Montrose and Chief Executive Officer Gervase Warner said it would create more jobs here as plans for the opening of two supermarkets proceed.
Warner had said then that the distribution centre feeds into the company’s plans for two supermarkets here on the East Bank, near to the Providence Stadium, on land owned by cricketer Ramnaresh Sarwan, and on the East Coast, on an empty lot being developed by Trinidad business MovieTowne. These, he said, would be “large footprint” supermarkets, which would also retail a small amount of non-food items.
Warner had said that the decision to get into the supermarket business in Guyana was made after a thorough analysis of the retail sector.
