A Berbice shop owner was found dead in his Belvedere, Corentyne home today with suspected gun and chop wounds.
Information reaching Stabroek News said that Patrick Mohabir, 42, was apparently shot and chopped to his leg and shoulder. It is suspected that the man may have bled to death.
Reports say that two men had entered his house and attacked him. The men reportedly escaped with two cellular phones.
The police today issued the following press release on the case:
About 2330h. last night Wednesday January 06, 2016, two men armed with a firearm and cutlass entered the home of Patrick Mohabir, 42 years, of Belvedere, Corentyne, and held him up along with his wife Shabina Ahmad, 39 years.
During the incident Patrick Mohabir put up a resistance and was shot and chopped by the perpetrators who escaped with two cell phones and a pair of shoes.
Patrick Mohabir was taken to the Anamyah Memorial Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
The investigations are in progress.
