A man facing charges of assault and using threatening language yesterday told a city court that he was provoked by the victim.
Seon Myers, 23, pleaded guilty to charges that he assaulted and threatened Orande Edmonson on January 6, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Myers stated that Edmonson was threatening him and he responded by pushing him. He further added that Edmonson ran into a store and brought out a knife in an attempt to injure him.
Edmonson, however, stated that Myers was arguing with him and had used a gay slur to describe him. He further stated that the accused cut him below his left eye with a pair of scissors that he had in his possession. This, Edmonson stated, led to him running into a nearby shop and requesting a knife, but it was not given to him.
The police prosecutor, in an attempt to bring clarity to the case, stated that on the day in question Myers saw Edmonson at a shop and began calling him names and later pushed him to the ground and threatened him with a knife.
Based on the fact that the weapon used in the police prosecutor’s account did not coincide with what the accused and Edmonson had related, the defendant’s plea was changed to not guilty.
Myers was placed on $15,000 bail and the matter is due to be heard again on January 29.
