The Guyana Water Inc today said that a disconnection team contracted by it was attacked twice and one of the workers severely injured.

On Wednesday January 6, while conducting a disconnection exercise in West Ruimveldt, GWI Contractor Winston Jones and his team were attacked by customers at the address 574 Hibiscus Place, West Ruimveldt.
A female employee was severely injured to the head from an object aimed at her by a resident of the aforementioned address.
The employee was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention.
Yesterday, Thursday January 7, the Disconnection Team attached to Mr. Jones was attacked again at Lot 232 Luckhoo Street, Lodge Housing Scheme, while conducting a disconnection for an account in the name of Sheila Thomas.
Residents of the aforementioned address threatened the Disconnection Team with cutlasses. Three (3) of the contracted GWI Employees, including supervisor Winston Jones, were injured during the assault.
The Disconnection Team was forced to flee the community after suffering several injuries.
Jones reported the incidents to the West Ruimveldt Police Station and the East La Penitence Police Station.
Chief Executive, GWI, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles stated that he is appalled to hear of the attacks and will be pursuing full legal action against the perpetrators.
‘We cannot condone these violent attacks against our contractors’, stated the GWI Chief Executive, ‘GWI will explore every option, including engaging the Guyana Police Force, to ensure the perpetrators are fully prosecuted’.
