The annual Mayor Hamilton Green 81st birthday seven-a-side Inter-Ward football championships will officially end today at the Den Amstel Community ground with the quarterfinal, semi-final and final fixtures.
Programmed to be hosted originally at the Thirst Park ground, the event will kick off from 14:00hrs in the West Demerara community ground with the opening quarterfinal fixture between Lima Dam and Kitty.
The second quarterfinal showdown at 14:00hrs will then pit Uitvlugt against Haslington while the third matchup of the section will witness Victoria against Pouderoyen from 15:00hrs. In the final quarterfinal encounter, home side Den Amstel will tackle Mahaica.
Upon the end of the final eighth section, the semi-final round will begin from 16:00hrs, with the winner of the Victoria/Pouderoyen encounter locking horns with the victor of the Kitty/Lima Dam fixture.
The eventual winner of the Haslington/Uitvlugt matchup will oppose the victor of the Den Amstel/Mahaica showdown in the second semi-final at 16:30hrs.
Following the conclusion of the final four round, the traditional third place playoff will commence from 17:00hrs, with the grand finale slated to follow from 17:30hrs.
Winner of the tournament will collect $200,000 and the John Fernandes sponsored Championship trophy while the second placed unit will receive $100,000 and respective accolade.
The third placed unit will receive $70,000 and the Chine Trading sponsored trophy while the fourth placed unit will pocket $30,000 and the Business School sponsored trophy.
On the individual side, the tourney’s highest goal scorer will receive a three-piece furniture suite from AH&L Kissoon whilst 10 hampers for eventual winner and runner-up was donated by Ricks and Sari.
