The partly decomposed body of a woman was found yesterday in a trench in Mahaica, four days after she was last seen.
The body was identified as 28-year-old Hafeeza Rohoman of Helena, Mahaica who was last seen on Thursday by her sister Shaneeza Rohoman. Rohoman’s body was found floating in a trench, some 10 minutes away from her home, by residents around midday. Stabroek News was made to understand that the woman, who has four children, moved in with a man a few months ago.
“He used to beat she bad and they always used to have problems,” a resident who didn’t want to be named relayed to Stabroek News yesterday. She said that the couple would often have violent arguments as both of them would drink alcohol. “Both of them used to drink but he used to drink more bad and they would make one set of noise all the time and you coulda even hear he beating she,” she added, stating that the last she heard any arguments from the couple was late last week.
“She was supposed to come back home and to collect her children and from what I understand is that he didn’t want her to come home and that’s where the big problem stemmed from,” Shaneeza related to Stabroek News. She said that while the family is not speculating on her death at the moment, it is very strange that man is nowhere to be found.
While a post-mortem examination is due today, a police source said that the case is being treated as a drowning at the moment.
