Enterprise man kicked wife after accusing her of infidelity

An Enterprise man was yesterday released on $80,000 bail after he denied kicking his partner after he accused her of being unfaithful.

The Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court heard that Ramkarran Mohanlall, 34, of 382 Ghandi Street, Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, on January 8, at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, allegedly unlawfully assaulted Shelly Shivmangal, causing her bodily harm. Mohanlall pleaded not guilty.

According to the police prosecutor, Mohanlall, who usually resides with Shivmangal, habitually assaults her.

The court further heard that the two were at Shivmangal’s Coldingen residence, when Mohanlall accused her of being unfaithful. An argument arose between the two and the defendant allegedly kicked the virtual complainant to her right hand, causing her bodily harm.

The prosecution also mentioned that it was not Mohanlall’s first time before the court for assaulting Shivmangal.

However, Mohanlall’s attorney denied that the man had ever been charged before and charged that the prosecution was misleading the court.

After hearing both sides, Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul set Mohanlall’s bail at $80,000 and placed him on a bond to keep the peace. Mohanlall’s next court appearance is on January 18, when the matter is to be heard at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
